GYMNASTICS: Sender finishes fourth in vault at World Cup in Doha

DOHA, Qatar-The USA's David Sender of Arlington Heights, Ill., placed fourth in vault at the World Cup held in Doha, Qatar. Sender posted a 15.950, just missing the bronze medal that went to Puerto Rico's Luis Vargas, who had a 16.000. Romania's Daniel Popescu won the vault title at 16.187, with Japan's Makoto Okiguchi finishing second at 16.037. Sho Nakamori of Albany, Calif., also competed in the event but did not advance to the finals. Both Sender and Nakamori compete for Stanford Univeristy. The other men's World Cup champions in Qatar were: Eleftherios Kosmidis, Greece, floor exercise; Prashanth Sellathurai, Australia, pommel horse; Yuri Van Gelder, Netherlands, still rings; Zhe Feng, China, parallel bars; and Weiyang Guo, China, horizontal bar. The women's champions were: Oksana Chusovitina, Germany, vault; Kexin He, China, uneven bars; Linlin Deng, China, balance beam; and Yuyuan Jiang, China, floor exercise.
